Thin film capacitor is a capacitor with metal foil as electrode, which is overlapped with polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene or polycarbonate from both ends and wound into a cylindrical structure.

 

According to the type of plastic film, it is also called polyethylene capacitance (also known as Mylar capacitance), polypropylene capacitance (also known as PP capacitance), polystyrene capacitance (also known as PS capacitance) and polycarbonate capacitance.

 

At present, most of the film capacitors used for DC support of new energy vehicles use high-temperature polypropylene film as the medium. Polypropylene film capacitors have the following advantages:

1. Application of thin film capacitor in new energy vehicles

 

Battery, motor and motor control technology are the three cores of new energy vehicles. In the motor drive and control circuit, the main electronic components required are power semiconductor device IGBT, control IC and capacitor, of which IGBT accounts for about 2/3 of the cost.

In the field of new energy vehicles, the existing aluminum electrolytic capacitors will be partially replaced by thin film capacitors in the future. At present, more and more companies have used film capacitors to replace electrolytic capacitors. BYD "Qin" and Tesla Model 3 both use thin film capacitors.
